Hollow plastic balls are made of polypropylene plastic and formed into spherical shapes. There is a reinforcement ring along the entire circumference of the ball's center, with twelve ball lobes above and below the ring, arranged radially along the central axis. They are suitable for deaeration towers for carbon dioxide and other devices such as contact reaction towers.
The manufacturing process of hollow plastic balls is much more complex compared to solid plastic balls. Several methods are used to produce hollow plastic balls:
Blow Molding: Ordinary plastic hollow balls are manufactured using blow molding technology. These plastic hollow balls are generally for applications with low quality and no special requirements for appearance or strength. Blow-molded plastic hollow balls have strong material selectivity; only PP and PE materials can be used. However, the thickness of the plastic hollow balls cannot be precisely controlled, and there may be uneven wall thicknesses. Therefore, many blow-molded plastic hollow balls are used for filler or plating solution covering.
Adhesive Bonding: Two plastic hollow hemispheres are manufactured using adhesive bonding. The seams of the plastic hollow hemispheres need corresponding positioning, where adhesive is applied. After applying adhesive, the hemispheres are joined together. The resulting plastic hollow balls have low strength and are sensitive to temperature, making them prone to cracking under high or low temperature conditions.
Welding: Plastic hollow balls are manufactured using welding technology. Similar to adhesive bonding, two plastic hemispheres are created. However, in welding, positioning is not required. The hemispheres are placed into a welding mold, which is then heated in a furnace. When the plastic at the seams melts and fuses together, the mold is cooled, and the plastic hollow balls are removed. These semi-finished plastic hollow balls undergo further processing with a specialized machine to achieve seamless integration, uniform wall thickness, and an attractive appearance. This method provides the best manufacturing quality for precision plastic hollow balls.
Ultrasonic Welding: Ultrasonic welding is another method used to manufacture plastic hollow balls. Two plastic hemispheres are joined together using ultrasonic welding, with appropriate positioning required for continuous welding. The material selection for ultrasonic welding is limited to hard plastics, and the welding strength is not high. However, this method is suitable for applications where strength requirements are not stringent.
